Meta sneakily introduced “Platform Integrity Attestation API” which basically calls home to see whether the user has a valid license to play.
This means that to run apps user has to have online connection to perform an integrity test. Whether it’s only a test on launch or continues call home like Denuvo-like DRMs is not yet clear. This could also mean that modified headsets could fail to pass this test essentially closing down the device for modifications that could damage “platform integrity”. Not all details are clear yet but this doesn’t look good.
Currently it’s optional and up to app developers to enable it.
I’ve wanted a reasonably priced headset for a while yet, never got one of these because fuck Facebook. Looks like that was the right choice all along.
Quest 3 is awesome! Only like 2-3 be games worth playing though so only worth if it you want to play them. This would ruin it, but I don’t see VtolVR pulling this with how awesome and affordable their game is
Well that settles it, time to sell my quest. I got it second hand to play beatsaber when I went off to uni, the only game I had bought on an old oculus rift many years ago. After setting it up and everything, logging into my account, I find out I CAN’T EVEN PLAY MY DAMN GAME. Apparently you need to buy it again to use it on another oculus product line or whatever. If I hadn’t figured out how to pirate on that thing I would have resold it years ago. Now it seems I will have to. Fuck you, meta 🖕

I can still run “backups” on my device today.
Couldn’t possibly matter less to me. I’ll never own one of these since Facebook bought them.
