Curiously, most common Lemmy sites and even Reddit are not blocked.
Lemmy.ml the Dev’s Instance is blocked though.
Lemmygrad is also the dev’s instance.
Yeah, I wonder why they blocked lemmy.ml and hexbear.net but not lemmygrad.ml and also plenty of other general purpose lemmy instances.
Lemmygrad is designed for Chinese users to access – Which ironically goes against the Lemmy developer’s whole “user privacy and freedom” shtick.
What about other Instances like lemmy.world, or beehaw, or even this one, I don’t think these ones exactly agree with China’s philosophy, actually funnily enough join-lemmy.org isn’t blocked either.
I’m guessing China is pretty far behind the curve when it comes to Internet Security and monitoring, than we give them credit for.
Didn’t bother checking those
They definitely didn’t, I figure the Fediverse is going to be very hard for them in the future since these servers are all (mostly) connected (and exist outside of china).
Some parts of it are blocked, to the point where it’s not functional and requires a VPN to properly work.
Did they think Hexbear was satire or something?
Tbh it gets a bit more bearable if you read those posts as satire or trolling. I think it’s part of the appeal for those involved.
bearable
Haha
Simone Biles level gymnastics incoming.
Are there instances that aren’t federated with hexbear? Im wondering if there are communities that think a bit more about which instances they federate with. And it’s not the political aspect that bothers me if you’re wondering.
sh.itjust.works, lemmy.world, you can view which instance blocks what by scrolling down and clicking on “instances”
Lemmy.world notably.
Funny considering lemmygrad.ml isn’t blocked.
Some parts of it are blocked, to the point where it’s not functional and requires a VPN to properly work.
I guess that’s to be expected since external images on blocked server wouldn’t load unless they’ve been cached on the one you’re viewing it on.
Similar thing happens to me with lemmy.zip since my connection or ISP blocks zip domains so images from users, posts, or communites on that server just don’t load at all unless I connect with Tor or a VPN.
