All these, “protect the children” bills end up being, “Remove all ability for anonymity online so we can deal with dissenters”

At this point in time, the bill is simply a proposal by one member of parliament. It goes in the biscuit tin, and only gets looked at if it gets drawn out at random.

To get prioritised, it needs support from all the parties in government. Our far right “deregulate and downsize government” party would have to support it, and it would be a very telling move if they did.

I suspect it was thrown out to distract from the (removal of) pay equity bill being rushed through in 24 hours and the Regulatory Standards Bill with 0.3% of support from select committee submitters being rammed through as well.

This is one of the most deeply undemocratic NZ governments of recent time, but given Act are in it, and Willis et al are Atlas network aligned neo-liberal fundamentalists that’s no surprise as that’s the whole point of neo-liberalism.

Telling, yes, but I’d be very surprised if they didn’t. Their goals align well with those of Peter Thiel et al.
