    #Wordle1421 3/6 Grade: A-

    ⬜🟨⬜⬜🟨 C
    ⬜🟨⬜🟨⬜ C
    🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 A+

    https://gradle.app/#SOccAbPoJAFCudhN

Used a stupid two word phrase to start, so I expected it to score badly. But I still can’t get over how gradle grades for words that are valid guesses, and not valid answers. There was really only 1 answer after my second guess, which should have made that one an A+.

Part of the problem is Gradle and sites like Scordle are using a standard dictionary and not Wordle’s official list of answers.

Options after your guess 2 include words that aren’t in the official answer list like EYASS. Those extra words are dragging down your score.

NYT cracked down on Wordle clone sites (see for example https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-times-shuts-down-unauthorized-wordle-archive-report-2022-3) so I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some restriction on using the official answer list.

Lists of old answers seem fine since I’m seeing them on sites like Techradar and Mashable, but I don’t know of (and honestly haven’t looked hard for) sites that do some rating based off of only the official list of possible Wordle answers and not just a standard dictionary.

You don’t actually need to use Wordle’s word list. I’m sure there are publicly available lists of word frequencies. If you want almost nothing to do with Wordle at all, then for the grading, you just pick some reasonable cut-off, and if the actual answer is ever below that cut-off, then you adjust.

Or, if you are allowed to have a list of old answers, all you have to do is choose the grade based on the least frequently used word so far that was used as a Wordle answer, and again, adjust if the actual new answer is below that.
