Hi, happy long weekend everyone! Hope everyone is having a good day so far. I’ve been listening to feedback and made a couple changes in 1.0.46. I added an about page for instances with a “Browse as guest” button. Fixed some issues with the link handler, and improved the experience of replying to long comments.
Changelog:
- Fixed replying to long comments.
- Made the comment and post create input fields more performant, hopefully fixed a flickering keyboard issue
- Preloads images on post lists so image jump-in should be reduced
- Added unsubscribe button to subscriptions list
- Added about community button to all communities in the drawer
- Added about instance button to all communities in the drawer and the top right menu.
- Improved the link follower in some cases to better detect posts and communities.
- If a post cannot be loaded on the local instance, attempt to view it on the foreign instance
- Added setting for adding dividers between top comments and between all comments
- Added setting for always displaying the comment bar
- Changed the app icon to something a bit more material design-y
- Added setting for even larger comment text size

Loving this so far.
My only real complaint is the swipe gestures. They seem a bit too easy, in that I find myself swiping stuff just trying to scroll up and down. Also, it seems awkward that returning the swipe to the right edge with my finger still yields an upvote. Personally I’d prefer if I only got the upvote if I release my finger while the upvote icon is still showing – not sure if that’s a common opinion though.
I’ve found that it’s a bit easy but my muscle memory has accepted it already. Maybe a delay in triggering the action would be useful? As in, slide to up vote and holding it for half a second or something. 🤷♂️
But yeah not sure how common the opinion is.

Totally agree. Something seemed off about how the swipe actions worked but I couldn’t put my finger on it
Is it possible to only exit the app if back button pressed twice? I keep accidentally close the app
Yeah I like this one too.
Oh man, thanks for adding that comment divider, I really apreciate you listening to feedback :)
Thank you for adding separators between posts in card view 🙇♂️ 🙌
Absolutely love how you listen to so much of our feedback. This app is truly built for the people haha.
Are you planning to open source it at all?
Also, I’ve noticed that the about community and instance pages either don’t show the user metrics or just show some of the user metrics and not all of them anymore since this update. Not sure if it’s a bug or intentional.

I am also wondering this myself. I don’t fault anyone for not, but may have an impact on my long term commitment with where my interest in this space is.
Also latest updates seemed to fix the issue with fold type phones.
It looks like the format [email protected] tries to bring you to a user page instead of a community, can you add that please!
Edit: I like browse as guest, but I didn’t realize you “sign in” and it shows as an account for every instance you browse. I browsed 5 before realizing I should be signing out!
I like it, but the fact that you can’t pinch to zoom an image almost kills it for me.
But you can, no? Just tap the image first, then it loads in full resolution, and there you can zoom just fine. Only thumbnails can’t be zoomed.
Dang I guess you can now. It wasn’t working when I first tried it. Awesome
You weren’t the only one with that issue, who knows what the reason was. Hooray!
What exactly is the “comment bar”?
Also, I now see a thick gray line between top level comments, regardless of whether or not I enable the new setting for comment dividers. (Looks like enabling that additionally adds a thin line between comments)
Yeah it kinda just helps to disinguish a bit easier where comments end and begin.

Is Card View broken, or was there an intentional change?
Card View used to have a nice, grey box that surrounded each post.
Now it’s almost indistinguishable from Fullwidth. No grey box, same divider lines as Fullwidth. Card View just has image previews chopped to a specific height.
Sounds like a bug. I’ll check it out and have it fixed in the next release! Thank you.
I see you already pushed an update to address this.
If the cards are going to be in a grey box container, they don’t need the divider that was added in this release I think.
I asked about the divider on the last release thread because I thought removing the grey boxes was intentional 😬😅
Thank you for all the work you’re putting into it!
Thanks! I figured it was only right that I buy you a coffee, since I keep harassing you on here. Keep up the good work!
Sync for Lemmy who?
Haha thank you! And glad you’re enjoying Connect

I dont like the new icon :(
More corporate less charm 😬
A style choice I guess
Added setting for adding dividers between top comments and between all comments
Thanks so much for this! Great app
The app icon looks great in the app drawer, but when you create a shortcut on thehome screen, the dynamic color fills the whole icon.
I have the same bug.
Relieved to hear that I am not the only one! I did the usual cache and storage clean up but that did not solve the issue for me.
Don’t worry, I’m sure the developer is aware of the bug by now and maybe it would get fixed in the next update.
It’s fixed in the latest update!
Glad to hear that!
Hi, is there a way to remove the option to have swiping up/downvote a post? Accidentally downvoted a couple of posts before I noticed the function
Yes there is! It’s under settings -> swipe actions
Ah fantastic, thanks!
Amazing work as always, Kuro!
It’s been a long time since I saw a developer being this responsive and caring about their app.
I noticed that the post age shows nothing older than “Last Week” even though the post is much older like one year sometimes.
It’s pretty annoying since it looks like a relatively new post but it’s just an old post that somehow got ranked really high in sorting by hot.
