Especially gasoline. Vanillin can and is being made from petroleum. Most of it actually is being made from petroleum.
The other main way of synthetically making Vanillin is from Lignin which is way more sustainable and a byproduct of the paper production.
It can really be made from a lot of things since it’s a realativly simple compound.

The stops between New York and Miami Beach in 1984 were a gasoline paradise for my 13 year old self.
I didn’t really realize at the time, but thinking back i remember the long wait cooking in that car in dazzling heat, like a virgin & when doves cry nonstop on the radio.
All these memories are drenched in a heavy gasoline stench, i can smell the smell right now, almost taste it.
