    USians switch between “we’re a very loose collection of not quite but mostly independent countries that each do their own thing with maximally diverse cultures” and “USA USA USA BEST COUNTRY” depending on whichever is most convenient in that moment.

      It’s if they want to distance themselves from states doing idiotic shit, or take credit for shit that’s out of their state.

        or whistling and walking the other way when one of their colonies like Puerto Rico is devastated by a combination of natural disaster and lack of infrastructure

        Considering the dependence of largely-conservative states on the federal welfare systems and conversely how they’re consistently duped into voting against the same (and the majority of their own interests) without anywhere near an equal amount of anything to balance out said strain on the nation, selling them off to neighboring countries is definitely a viable solution. 🤮
