Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.
A few days ago my main account ( @[email protected] ) and a few of my alts were banned for vote manipulation. (https://lemmy.ca/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=20988171)
While i did upvote 2 posts with the alts, they were both by a friend, and I knew the posts were going to get downvoted anyway. I have since removed the votes (that i know of).
There could be a few posts I upvoted by mistake on an alt without realising I already voted on it.
Just saw this
I was the one that banned the offending accounts to be exact 4 of them:

I don’t believe this at all based on your actions.
I mean, lemmy.ca doesn’t have a rule against vote manipulation, and what I did was pretty inconsequential.
While Lemmy.ca and Piefed.ca doesn’t have any explicitly specified rules stated about vote manipulation, everyone here on the Fediverse has already implicitly agreed that vote manipulation is a violation against the principles of trust. In plain English it’s just scummy and gross. Reddit is shit but even us who migrated from there already know that this kind of behavior is highly inadvisable/digusting to say the least.

Once or twice (potentially depending on circumstances) could be waved as an accident. As exhibited by the screenshot provided above, logging into 4 different accounts to upvote the same post accidentally I don’t believe for a goddamn second.
and I knew the posts were going to get downvoted anyway.
Also going back to this, this is a terrible reason/justification. Myself and fellow Fediusers that I interact with know that some assholes will downvote in bad faith but that doesn’t give us nor anyone else the justification to create accounts to upvote ourselves or each other. This just create a positive feedback loop for all the wrong reasons creating what is commonly known as an echo chamber. There also exists parallels to “Yes Men” situations/systems.
Look if it’s a bad idea to do as a mod/admin then it’s probably also bad to allow anyone else to do this.
I 1000% understand just how upsetting and frustrating it can be to see things downvoted. But this is not the right way to correct/improve things here in the Fediverse.
Currently based on your actions; I see little to no reason to believe that you would interact (voting, commenting, posting) on our instances/services or with our users in good faith.
To discourage vote manipulation, personally I believe the bans should work/remain in place as the clear consequences for having done so. The other Lemmy.ca/Piefed.ca admins are free to disagree. @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected]
For anyone reading if you don’t vote manip then thank you🌻. You are the role models we need🫡.
Thanks for responding,

That’s not what I was saying at all, I did vote intentionally with the alts on 2 posts, but I could have done it once or twice without realising it.
Those 2 were the only posts I have (intentionally) done anything deceptive with and I have removed the offending votes.

Speak for yourself. A vote is a reaction. It’s a fun social interaction. You have loaded it up with a bunch of mythos and bullshit that it just cannot bear. Get a fucking grip. You’re being abusive. You’re of course welcome to ban whomever you like for whatever reason you like, but trying to make this a moral issue is fucking shitty.
Didn’t read further.

That’s… some pretty twisted rationalization on your part. I’m not saying it deserves a lifetime ban or anything, but at the same time, please leave that kind of entitled “the rules don’t apply to me and my friends unless I feel like they should” mentality in the trash. I know I might be wasting my time if you’re truly into the anarchy mindset but like, anarchy only works until the moment your needs overlap with another person’s needs, and a community like this is full of people with different needs, and if you try shoving your views where they’re not wanted, that kind of anarchy has consequences and you’re going to suffer them. Including but not limited to bans, and general lack of sympathy.
I don’t think the rules shouldn’t apply to me, and I would understand if the admins here don’t want to unban me. I’m making this post because I’m hoping providing some additional context, and removing the offending votes would be enough to get me unbanned.
Also: as an anarchist, anarchism isn’t a lack of rules, it’s for the abolishment of hierarchy. An anarchist society would absolutely have rules.
Votes don’t matter, and neither does what random moderators think. You can ban anyone for any reason, or no reason. Don’t sweat it. Keep voting how you like, any way that’s convenient and makes sense for you. As long as you’re not setting up bot farms to vote for you, anyone who is put off by it is just that kind of person.
I was banned by an admin of lemmy.ca, I wouldn’t consider them a random moderator.
I mean you broke the rules, there are consequences, not much else to say

We live in a time where vote manipulation is becoming the downfall of democracies. Any manipulation of a voting system is unfair and misleading regardless of the amount of false votes. Trying to fluff it off as a non issue is just as bad. If votes can be fake then they mean nothing at all.
Vote manipulation is blatantly antithetical to a voting system.
Don’t play the sophist.
You’re basically the love child of Putin and Hitler.
There any request or just letting us know? :D
Well, hopefully to get unbanned :P
lol total overreaction IMO, because votes on lemmy don’t do much other than helping with sorting/displaying. don’t get me wrong: i think it’s a very cool feature, but even if someone actually up- or downvoted with multiple accounts, it’s very irrelevant at the end of the day.
OP, is this your alt?
No?
I give them all the same name and profile picture because it seems deceptive not to.
lol, no, i’m another user. don’t let this silly goose drive you into paranoia 😄
