Hey all!

I know this may only be somewhat related to this thread but I was hoping for some help with my lawn.

I just moved into a new build and most of the 1.5 acre yard is red clay and rocks. So many rocks.some bigger than my fist, most on the small side. I’ve tried to pick them up but it feels like an impossible task.

Further more, I have found that 75% of these rocks are not rocks? They are hard and silver but if I squeeze them hard enough the break up.

I can’t tell between a rock that will break my window from my lawn mower and these faux rocks.

Any tips on getting my lawn in order?

A rototiller was my first thought as well. Picking up the rocks will just require manual labor, but a tiller should do a good job of breaking up the clumps, though the soil might need to be amended with some other dirt/soil tilled in.

Might be able to rent a tractor or something to flatten it, sounds like most of the rocks are just dirt clumps. Either way that should help.

Or if you have kids yourself or in the neighborhood, you could hire some help and keep them busy during the summer break?

The rocks could be tightly packed silt, loose sandstone, or maybe mica from excavation. Pictures would help.
