Please note: Lemmy is still alpha technology and is under current development

Welcome to Lemmy!

We have two communities for Sanderson on Lemmy: /c/cosmere and /c/brandonsanderson. /c/cosmere will be for cosmere books discussion, /c/brandonsanderson will be for more general purpose Sanderson discussion. You can also check out related science fiction/fantasy communities in partnership with SFFA (science fiction fantasy alliance) by clicking the Communities button in the top left.

Lemmy mostly works like reddit. Here are a few key differences to be aware of.

Spoiler tagging in posts/comments

Spoiler markup on Lemmy works like this:

::: spoiler Book Name/Spoiler Scope

text here

:::

That becomes the following, with the spoiled text collapsed, and the book name displayed to warn people what it’s a spoiler for.

Book Name/Spoiler Scope

text here

This is important to note because all spoilery posts and comments must be under spoiler formatting until we have spoiler toggle ability to blur posts.

Making an account

You can browse the communities without an account, however, if you want to post/comment, you will have to create your account, then verify the email of that account, before you can log into it. Please be aware that the verification email often goes to the spam/junk folder so you may need to check there for it. Please also be aware that the site does not notify you that it has sent the email and that you may see an endlessly spinning loading icon — in that case, you should assume the mail was sent and check for it. This email verification issue has been addressed by our dev team and hopefully it resolves within the next 48 hours (it is currently July 4, Xpm PST). We are monitoring this issue closely.

Tagging posts

Our devs are still working on post flairs, so for now we ask that all posters include a tag in their post title indicating the spoiler scope. It’s as simple as adding [Book Name] to the beginning of your post title. For example:

[Mistborn: TFE] So how about that one fight [Oathbringer] What do you think about that Sanderlanche? [Warbreaker Ch 4] Can someone help me understand___? [No Spoilers] Latest progress update

Removed Posts

Currently, when a post is removed, it will no longer show up in your profile. We will copy the link to the post and send it to you with a message of what needs to be edited/changed. If the issue is something you can correct, make the change and then respond to our message and include your post link, and we can restore it.

Note that, unlike Reddit, post titles and links can be edited after posting!

Removed Comments

Currently, when a comment is removed, Lemmy will delete its contents (rather than simply marking the comment not displayable). As a result, when we remove comments for spoilers, we will copy the content of the comment into our message to you, along with a link to the comment. You can follow the link, make any necessary changes (note your changes will not display after you save), and then message us back (with a link to the comment) and we will restore it.

Mobile Apps

There are a number of third-party mobile apps available for Lemmy, including Jerboa (Android) (Currently not compatible with our instance due to version changes), Liftoff (iOS & Android), Connect (Android), Memmy (iOS) and more.

Please be aware that spoiler formatting DOES NOT WORK on mobile apps at this time. Mobile apps are all in alpha and beta stages and currently do not support the spoiler markdown. Use mobile apps at your own risk. The mobile website is functional and we recommend using that if spoilers are a concern.

If you have any questions or concerns feel free to comment below or post for help over at SFFA Meta.

    I am having the same issues finding communities from kbin. Once subscribed, things show up, but I can’t find the community to subscribe to in the first place. We are federated but I think it’s taking some time to really gain audience.

      The Fediverse also has some interesting caching issues with new communities. They all seem to eventually show up though. There’s a way to directly link to them but I’m still a noob and don’t know exactly how that works. Something like [email protected] you can put that in searches to find it.

      So far everything I’ve read is someone on the instance had to have searched for your community at least once for it to start showing up. Using the shorthand above should work but the first time can take a while. After that it should start showing up using just keywords like Brandon in the community search field.

        Yeah, I’ve put that into search at kbin but it turned up empty. We might still have been too new. We are starting to get subscribers and commenters from other instances though, so we’re getting there :)
