Honestly fuck the beeching cuts so much, the bastard had connections to the road building industry and there is some evidence that he didnt expect all his reccomendations to be taken at face value as they were so stupidly extreme.

In the area I come from it resulted in stupid shit like the branch line that went into a main town being shut and the ‘town station’ being 4-5 miles away from the actual town whereas the old station was a 20 min walk from the centre.
