There’s a reason the History Channel has produced hundreds of documentaries about Hitler but only a few about Dwight D. Eisenhower. Bad guys (and gals) are eternally fascinating. Behind the Bastards dives in past the Cliffs Notes of the worst humans in history and exposes the bizarre realities of their lives. Listeners will learn about the young adult novels that helped Hitler form his monstrous ideology, the founder of Blackwater’s insane quest to build his own Air Force, the bizarre lives of the sons and daughters of dictators and Saddam Hussein’s side career as a trashy romance novelist.
I think he overdoes the side bits, but I can ffw when that happens. I’ve learned a hell of a lot from this show. But sometimes, god, shut up and get back to the main content.
It’s definitely more personality-driven, so if you’re not into Robert or his humor style, it can impact your enjoyment. Like for me, his bits almost always land so I really like when he gets sidetracked.
I mostly don’t mind, but sometimes. Similar complaint about the guys at Last Podcast on the Left. Sometimes, just stop and get back on the road. But it’s mostly fine.

I’ve been a long time listener, but increasingly dislike Robert. He has some great guests on. I’ve found some other podcasts thanks to him.
