With all the recent Reddit drama I’ve decided to look into roguelikedev communities in the federated spaces. One didn’t already exist so I ended up deciding to just make one myself. I’m not an experienced moderator but I’ve been very active in the /r/roguelikedev subreddit and should be just as active here.

Now that this space is setup it will be easier to start a discussion about alternatives to Reddit. Feel free to talk about your expectations of this community.

Do you have a preference for which instance becomes the default one? e.g. lemmy.world seems much more popular, though it is much more general use rather than programming.dev.

I was thinking I’d cross-post any new content to both with a preference for programming.dev.

The issue is less about which one is more popular and more about which one might have federation issues. lemmy.world has an open approval process which makes it more accessible for joining the Fediverse but causes grief as its users become associated with bots and trolls. If you follow the drama then you’d know that the large community beehaw.org has defederated lemmy.world until better moderation tools can be made. programming.dev is less at risk of being defederated and the community hosted there can be posted to just as easily from lemmy.world or any other instance.
