And if your kids are old enough to reach the top of the stove, you can teach them not to touch it because it’s dangerous.
I don’t think I can recall any accident here with a child touching those knobs. Maybe European children are just smarter, eh :P?

Gas knobs have the same safety features as you’re describing in the US. The back-mounted knobs in OP’s image are on an electric stove.
