Personally, when I first saw big cats up close in a zoo, I was absolutely stunned by their magnificence. I understood why they were called big cats and got a new respect for the big cats that day. It made me personally feel more obligated to save them from going extinct. Anecdotal I know, but I can see how zoos can bee seen to help protect animals.
