      Article doesn’t get much more specific than replacing Platinum and Palladium

        I assume that it has to deal with industrial chemistry, many chemical reactions are too slow to be industrially viable, but if you add platinum or palladium the reactions become much faster. I believe the hydration and reduction reactions get sped up by its presence, and brief searching says that it is used in the most common reaction for obtaining nitric acid.
