After hearing that Mick Schumacher was moving to Indycar in 2026 I became curious about Indycar and decided to follow it a little closer this year, scooping up [email protected] to make an active community for it here on Lemmy.

What is Indycar

Indycar is North America’s premier open-wheel auto racing series with 11 teams and 25 drivers.

Prema (known for F2 and F3 teams) joined last year, however due to the financial issues their entry this year is uncertain.

Notable drivers include ex-F1 drivers Mick Schumacher, Alexander Rossi, Marcus Ericsson and Romain Grosjean, McLaren F1 reserve driver Pato O’Ward and ex-McLaren reserve driver Alex Palou.

Former F1TV presenter Will Buxton is a lead commentator for Indycar on FOX along with current F1TV presenter and former Indycar driver James Hinchcliffe.

Races and circuits

There are 18 races scheduled for 2026 with a mix of ovals/superspeedways, dedicated circuits and street circuits in the US and Canada. The race that most are probably familiar with is the Indy 500, part of the triple crown of motorsports.

Two of the races have concluded with two more to go in March! August has five races scheduled!!

Notable events in the season so far:

  • Schumacher’s debut ended in a lap 1 crash at no fault of his own.
  • In his first-ever oval qualifying for race 2, he secured an impressive P4.
  • Josef Newgarden currently leads the championship, snatching it from Palou who held the lead for ~600 days after Palou had a crash in race 2.

Where to watch:

  • In the US, Fox Sports is the exclusive broadcaster of all Indycar races.
  • For other countries, broadcaster information can be found here.
  • Indycar Live is an F1TV-like service to view live races and replays.
  • Highlights and clips can be found on their YouTube channel.

Come check out [email protected]! I plan on posting practice, qualifying and race threads similar to the F1 community here.

Will Buxton is British heh 👀 😅

But to answer your question I’m not certain if there is a non-American commentary feed. For the UK I know Sky Sports brings on a British commentator whenever the American feed takes an ad break.
