A very large minority are there to get citizenship, pay for college, have a place to live, etc. I would say another large minority are the ones that actually want to be there

It’s not compulsory. I would say I’m shocked to see an ML defending the war machine. But… tanks. Makes sense.

I’m .ml because they don’t require an email for sign up

It isn’t compulsory, unless you can’t get a job with healthcare, are fleeing dangerous places with no faster path to citizenship, were preyed on by recruiters as young as 14, etc. There are plenty of ways a volunteer army is not made of willing participants.

I am not defending the military, but I’m able to separate the people it victimizes from the people it serves.

I’m not trying to hurt your feelings

Edit to clarify my points: a lot of people in the military are not blood-hungry maniacs. Theyre reasonable people with no other means to support their kids and don’t know better. If you’re hostile to these people at every front you’re pushing them away from better alternatives. You’re almost certainly speaking from a position of privilege if you’ve never had to consider it.
