“Although people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait live under different systems, we will respect each other and move towards each other,” Cheng said, adding: “We will seek systemic solutions to prevent and avoid war.”

Both Xi and Cheng said they would uphold the 1992 Consensus and opposed Taiwan’s independence

But will America allow it? I guess if we’re here already, America probably can’t do much about it… and TBF the big Satan is busy bombing multiple countries around the world so their resources might be too spread out regardless.

Crazy that meeting with an openly hostile foreign enemy like this isn’t a crime.

It isn’t a crime. Of you can deescalate a situation you absolutely should.

The problem here is that the opposition leader is clearly loyal to China

So China stops its war games around Taiwan now? What does the CCP understand by ‘peace’?

As per Wikipedia citing a DW interview,

Cheng stated her worry that Taiwan under the presidency of Lai Ching-te would become like Ukraine under the Russian invasion. When the interviewer responded that “the dictator caused the war”, she rejected the claim and described Vladimir Putin as “a leader with democratically elected”, blaming the invasion on NATO enlargement. Source - Here is the interview (in Chinese)

    She perfectly echos Chinese-Russian narratives.

While I don’t have evidence to support it, my guess would be that China had a part in getting her elected.

Bet china tries to cash in on the USA crashing and “look & feel” like the “stable” trading partner now.

But yeah, Taiwan, go buy as much military tech from Ukraine as you can, you’re gonna need it.
