    Most of those are synonyms anyway. They basically all mean “religion provides relief to a large amount of people in an oppressive society”. The question is, did the people choose their religion or was it foisted upon them?

      I think the idea is the form religion takes is fundamentally contingent on the oppressive conditions of the society, and not the other way around.

    Can we throw some more labels on this? Look at all that unclaimed real estate in the upper right. Surely that ferris wheel, the mountain, and the peace sign she’s making represents something too.

    Yeah, everyone knows opiates are categorically great and not at all something that numbs you to the world but has massive drawbacks that make them practically never worth the trouble.

      Tell that to the guy with shattered femurs. If I ever find myself with horrible injuries, I’m going to be so glad that morphine exists.

        Should society be on morphine all the time? There are no small measured doses with religion and all the prescribing professionals are high on their own supply.

        I think the point is that it’s a lot more ideal to not need it in the first place if we can help it due to the incredibly negative side effects
