I don’t get the point of gendered bathrooms. A bathroom is there to piss and shit, why are people so scared of genders mixing?

Sexual assult is the usual argument.

It’s a private space that can’t be monitored with surveillance.

Whether or not that is a good argument is debatable.

Personally I do know a number of people who have been sexually assaulted / raped in club bathrooms.

Were those bathrooms gendered though? I think the argument that shared bathrooms lead to more sexual assault needs some scientific backing.

I get that you’re just paraphrasing the arguments of others btw.

I think gendered bathrooms may make sexual assaults easier, because a man invading a women’s bathroom knows there won’t be a strong man to knock him down.

SA van only be prevented with education. Gengered signs won’t stop it. Those signs just make lines longer. I could be wrong but gender neutral toilets could deter sexual assaulters as they might noe know who is where.

The Eaton Center in Montréal has been building gender-neutral bathrooms and it seems to be working quite well. Bonus is there’s actually proper stalls that go from floor to ceiling with no gaps in them. IMO this is where the privacy matters, and then the sinks area is a lot more visible and less likely to be assaulted there.

Meanwhile in high-school in the boys restroom I’ve had someone jump up the stall on me multiple times because they thought it was funny.
