Hey folks.
I’m moving house to a purchased one (Yay!), which means I can finally install permanent cable installation (weird legalities in Australia around DIY ethernet installs).
I’m currently already pumping 2gbps through a Cat6a and suspect that I might outgrow this faster than I outgrow the house. So I’d rather help with future proofing.
However, even though I am capable of sending great amounts of data, I know jack about data cabling.
I see a TONNE of posts disparaging users from going 8.1, though I don’t understand why (I think that because of the difficulties in terminating it, it requires a more specialised person?)
And fibre is just plain scary to me - I want everything to just end in the RJ45 I’m comfortable and familiar with :D.
I will have to hire someone either way, and while fibre is obviously better for future proofing, if the cost is going to be astronomical, or the power consumption is, I’'d probably prefer Cat8.1
