'Amoral': Catholic education head takes issue with national sexual consent curriculum

Strengthened sexual consent education is now part of the Australian curriculum for all schools, and while non-government schools have some discretion in its implementation, the head of Catholic Education Tasmania has criticised the way consent is included in the national curriculum.

“In Catholic morality, consent is necessary, but not sufficient, to make the sexual act right or wrong. It is the long-held teaching of Christ that sexual activity is only legitimately expressed within the loving relationship between husband and wife.”

    Sex Ed and teaching about consent is about the most reliable way to prevent kids being sexually abused - I wonder why the Catholic Church would resist that kind of thing.

      Yeah, the irony is pretty strong in this. How about they start with teaching their “morality” to all the child-abusing priests out there?

      I’m no statistician, but I’m willing to bet that the number of people with lifelong trauma after being sexually abused by the priests they trusted far outnumbers the number of people who have lifelong trauma as a result of having sex before marriage.
