I was interested at first, but then I saw it was cloud-based with a required subscription :/

Yeah I thought it was part of Game Pass and I might dabble in some old Neo Geo titles. But this… Not so much.

The lifetime price isn’t bad, but who knows what the lifetime of this service will be. I’d go for it if it weren’t cloud based.

Oh on XBOX, hurrdurr I didn’t pay attention to what instance this was. On pc emulation is a breeze, can’t say I’ve ever emulated anything on Xbox, my bad

    Antstream Arcade.

I was expecting something actually native to the Xbox platform, not another garbage streaming service.

This is kinda awesome in an age where emulation takes time to set up. I’ll have to see the game list

How does it take any longer now then it ever has though? Where are your roms, and maybe remap the buttons are the only things you need to do.

Honestly it’s less time than ever but it’s still time in an era where convenience is taking over and younger generations are less tech literate. It’s like Netflix V piracy in many regards. Example, let’s say I wanna play something obscure like congo bongo or Bruce Lee from C64 that’s a pain to configure and if I change platforms the state saves are gone, ect. A solution like this could make it stupid easy and you could be gaming on your TV like in decades past. I’m not a fan of streaming but I imagine an arcade that preserves these niche titles is going to be easier solution for most rather than whipping about a raspberry PI or PC and for me especially keeping my progress on these titles is useful when they don’t have save systems.

You forgot about the “best” part. Playing around with config files, only to have something break and have to delete and restart.

I’d be way more interested in if they partnered with Microsoft to bring these games to Xbox and Game Pass. A proprietary cloud streaming subscription on top of a platform with built in cloud streaming/subscriptions is…silly

There’s got to be a licensing nightmare behind a product like this. Geforce Now had a ton of trouble just getting the rights to stream individual (modern) games on its cloud connection - and now we have tons of classic games, known for being impossible to track down the rights of, being sold as an online streaming product.

That’s of course setting aside just how large the intersection is, of people both excited about classic games, and happy with cloud-based services.

The lifetime pass isn’t bad, but I don’t really have any nostalgia for the platforms that make up the bulk of Antstream’s catalog, like the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, and Amiga.

I was looking at the genesis lineup. If you don’t have NHL 94, Mickey’s Castle of illusion, Road Rash or Altered Beast what are you doing. Most of what they have is stuff I don’t have nostalgia for.
