We have finally entered a different paradigm. This part of the series will be primarily focusing on genres. So far I have [RTS, Turn based RPG, Action RPG, Board Game, Arcade Game, third person shooter, MMO, Action, Civ Clone (yell at me if this isn’t the right name for the genre), 2D Platformer, 3D Platformer, Roguelike, Dungeon Crawler, Card Game, Point and click, Indie, Text dungeon, Stealth, Rhythm, horror, Metroidvania, Survival, Sandbox, Adventure, Simulation, Puzzle, Bullet Hell, Racing, Tower Defense, Sports, Idle, Trivia, and Casual] as available genres. Let me know if I missed something, and I will try to get it added.
I finally decided to give these threads a tag. It might be easier for people to search for in the future. I also expect to bring this over to the other comms in the near future.
This is eventually all going to get compiled into one megathread for people who want gaming recommendations from Chapos specifically. Other consoles and genres will come in sporadic subsequent threads. Please contribute to previous threads if you missed them. This is meant to be an exhaustive list.
Expanding on your choice(s) is definitely a plus. Not everyone knows about or has played non-mainstream titles.
Halo 1 and 2 are my favorite shooters ever. AI and gameplay FAR beyond anything else at the time including Half-Life 2 which IMO is overrated. That’s not even considering the multiplayer.
Wolfenstein: The New Order deserves a mention as well for putting single player shooters back on the map. Incredible game not afraid to push the envelope.
I second Halo 1, it has a certain sandboxy element to it rather than the more linear style most other shooters have. I still enjoy replaying it after 20 years. Halo 1 pc and Ce are pretty much free now, too, and Ce has modding support.
Played thru halo 1 and 2 on legendary in the master chief collection a few months ago and it was just as fun if not more fun than the first time in the 2000s. Amazing games to this day fun all the way through.
