Bullshit Rating (Abstract): Mostly Bullshit
Bullshit Rating (Expanded): From what I can tell this boils down to if certain components in vegetable and seed oils common in Western diets are causing increased rates of inflammation and therefor increased rates of subsequent things like heart disease. Unfortunately its more complicated than just ‘are they terrible for you?’ So here’s my best answers to what I think are the pertinent questions to this topic.
Does linoleic acid cause inflammation? Probably not.
Does arachidonic acid cause inflammation? Probably not, but we need to study it more
Do these components present within vegetable and seed oils play a roll in inflammation in the body? Yes.
Does consuming vegetable and seed oils increase your chances of inflammation and related diseases? Probably not.
Does over-consuming vegetable and seed oils pose potential increased health risks? Pretty obviously yes, but not really because you’re getting too much omega-6 as compared to omega-3 in your diet.
