One of my favorite things to do to trigger Music People is to just say The Beatles are a '60s version of BTS, and when they get mad I just point out all the worst songs in their catalogue that are indefensibly bad, like “Octopus Garden”.

Octopus’s Garden is a straight up goofy-ass masterpiece, how can you listen to John Lennon gargle those underwater backing vocals and not forgive him for at least a little bit of the wifebeating you joyless monster

Abbey Road is a very good album, I like it a lot. Also Happiness is a Warm Gun prob my fave Beatles track, the guitar solo is ace. She’s So Heavy also good. Come Together, and Tomorrow Never Knows also good. Plus no one fucking likes Yellow Submarine don’t be stupid m8.

Haha, I like em, and maybe they were influential or whatever, but they have a lot of garbage in their catalogue for sure. The white album for example could easily be cut in half, didn’t need to be a double album.

I think Rubber Soul is their best album, after that a lot of their stuff went way too far up its own ass, I don’t need to listen to a bunch of white dudes playing the sitar tbh.

Also my “hot take” (and amongst a certain crowd it is definitely a hot take) is that the Rolling Stones are better than Beatles - sure the Beatles were better for like, four years in the 60s, but the stones have another 50 years of material after that. The stones didn’t even release some of their best albums until after the Beatles were broken up. So over the course of their whole output I much prefer the stones.

I don’t know if yoh can really say they “objectively don’t suck”, but I know with what you mean.

Most of the hatred directed at the Beatles is just because it’s a trendy ‘hot take’. There’s a difference between “I don’t really like The Beatles” vs “Actually they were trash”
