I’ve got a friend I want to do tabletop sim with and we’re looking for game recs! Wargames and stuff aren’t entirely off the table but we’d prefer things that aren’t just you vs me kinda stuff. I thought clank might be fun but I haven’t tried it out yet. If yall have any favorite drop them in the comments and we’ll give them a look!

Spirit Island is a cooperative board game where you play as different spirits helping to defend an indigenous population from colonizing Europeans.

The flavour is great, and the since the spirits are all so different and you get your spells from deck-building, the game is much less on rails in comparison to other collaborative games, much more interactive and communicative as you have to share potential things you each could do to solve the problem of imperialism.

You can play against different specific European empires (their tokens are white lol) and each one colonizes differently.

Very good game that has a lot of replayability because there are so many ways to switch the game up - my board game crew played this solidly for one entire year before we started branching out again and it’s still in rotation.

I just got a game called Eila and Something Shiny that just happens to have an official TTS module. Its a game with 5 chapters and each is a choose your own adventure type game that you play with other people. You follow the story of Eila and the people she meets along the way. There are quite a few endings to the games acts but you want to go in knowing as little as you can. Sadly it only has chapter 0 and 1 in TTS. I dont know if your friend and you can meet up IRL but it would be fun to start it to see if you like it.

You might want to check out Clank Legacy. Clank Legacy adds additional objectives in addition to the regular wincondition which seems to be what you’re looking for.

The only caveat is that it’s a Legacy style game so the experience is spread out over multiple playthroughs and the first couple are a bit empty. If you’re looking to play just a few times, Clank is definitely better.
