Does this mean trans Canadians actually can’t visit Florida?

How long until an employer gets sued for housing an event in Florida and it being ruled discriminatory?

This is how tourism and trade dies.

I haven’t been safe to go to Florida for a while, but now I am officially unsafe. My license has X for my gender marker, so I don’t think they would like that

      My license has X

Then you’re likely halfway there! Florida is asking not for gender, but for your “innate and immutable biological and genetic characteristics”… which can only be understood as your chromosomal sex. Just need to add one or two letters, for XX, XY, XXX, XXY, or XYY, and you’re done! 🤡

(unless you’re a chimera or a transplant patient, then you might need to list all the chromosomal sexes of each of your components… I guess)

I live in Florida and these opinions are very rare among any major city’s population. In fact, I just took a group of kids to an art event at the capital and they drew (in chalk) a trans themed square on the ground just outside of one of the legislative chambers.

Please understand that the south is full of the most brutally progressive people. Everything we do is intentional and FOUGHT for. That is why our politicians try so deeply to oppress us. It’s bothering them so much that it’s not working.

Right, but if it is against the law for me to have an X on my license, the cops have a reason to use violence. Not playing around with that. I have a couple reasons to go to Florida, but none of them are worth that potential

In what possible scenario could the sex of the driver matter on a drivers license anyway? Do the driving rules suddenly change based on gender?

These guys are clearly dealing with all the important problems

You have the answer about halfway the letter:

a driver license is an identification document

It’s a consequence of Americans not wanting a government issued ID, so they’d rather have the DMV issue them one. They will also use their Social Security Number, printed on a piece of paper that expressly states it’s NOT to be used for identification purposes… for identification purposes.

In saner countries, the government issues everyone an official ID card with strong anti-counterfeiting features, then every other document relies on one’s ID card for identification purposes.

Spot on. Just like a lot of other things (taxes being the notable one that I can remember) an unreasonable amount of US people hate it when government does anything useful with their tax money.

Want an ID? Fucking do it yourself, but oh btwz here’s this shitty paper that you can never share or lose or you’re fucked.

Want to know how much tax you should pay taxes? Figure it the fuck out yourself (but then we’ll still do it for you and ruin you if you fuck up)

Want to avoid going to jail? Be fucking telepathic and know how to do it yourself.

It’s a pretty insane thing to tolerate and yet here we are.

I mean, why would the gender matter anyway?

We use drivers license here for a lot of things for id too.

I wouldn’t want a national Identity card tbh

Apart from genuine medical reasons to know chromosomal makeup, gender doesn’t matter. Unless a bigot is looking.

What does matter is that the US has an arcane, idiotic method of doling out IDs to it’s citizens. It is fundamentally incompetent.

A federal ID or at least a unified standard state ID that is issued at birth or immediately upon immigration for no cost would reduce inequity and prevent people from being barred service due to ludicrous reasons such as “not having valid ID”

And I’ll be blunt and say that while I respect an individual may not want one, the fact is that you already have one (either SS# or an equivalent) and are a know quantity with or without your consent. A fair federal or unified state standard would take bigoted tomfuckery out of the question and make things clear to individuals.

Just commenting because you were really specific there with the chromosomes. The ID wouldn’t help with that. Doctors mostly look at the baby and decide the sex without genetic testing. Mistakes in this case are only found out if something medical happens and they need to check.

Yes that is fair and I agree. The current method of determining assigned chromosomal sex at birth is inadequate. Edit - I forgot, it also doesn’t account for rare cases such as XXY (kleinfelters). Personally I think strictly for medical reasons ASAB/chromosomal should be determined accurately and then essentially not used. Gender identify further does not play any meaningful role at all and is not needed on an ID. It is just a way to discriminate as far as I can tell. Sadly we are quite a ways from that reality.

You’ve clearly never been pulled over in Florida. We are required to expose our genitals and they better match what’s on our identification or its straight to jail.

The travel safety guide they posted seems to have a much rosier picture of Arizona than I’d attribute to a state that locks trans women up with men.

Florida continuing to ensure that I’ll never be giving them either my business nor my professional skills. Not that I’d want to anyways, on account of the weather and bugs wanting me just as dead as the politicians.

I have a gay son and a trans nephew. I can tell you right now: This family will not be visiting California Florida anytime soon.

The fun part is, while looking for vacations abroad, California Florida and a lot of the USA is now in the same corner as Iran, China, a lot of Africa, etc, etc. places that are not open minded about such things.

When will California Florida show it’s true colors again? Or is this it?
