  • I liked the first couple seasons of SNW. Spock Amok had me in stitches and Pike is the captain we’ve needed for a while now.

Lower Decks is… frighteningly good as the seasons progress. Their ability to target and poke fun at Trek-tropes was better than any YT channel I’ve seen, yet they respected the source material and mimicked it with commensurately great ability. I was torn between laughing and crying while they did laps around DS9. (DS9 being my fav trek.) And I was genuinely surprised they got Jolene Blalock back given I thought she hated the franchise after her time in it. Even if the humour was more miss-than-hit for me early on in the series.

SGU was weird and originally felt like a BSG knockoff, but I loved their big sci-fi hook and wish we got to know what it was. (BIG spoiler for it below. It’s an old show but still. If you haven’t seen it don’t click.)

Pattern in the cmbr, really cool sci-fi idea

That said, most of SGU, aside from the early eps when critical offline systems were important, didn’t really land with me. High concept; poor execution.

Prodigy was the Voyager continuation we apparently all needed but didn’t know. (At least I didn’t.) Was glad to hear a lot of familiar voices in S2, reprised.

  • When I’m looking to buy something instead of looking for entertainment.

When I’m checking a local flyer or few to see the best deal on insert grocery item I’d love it if advertisers could just go, “well, we’re the cheapest this week on cans of green-beans so… walk over here and buy a few.”

Make it efficient instead of something I’m literally willing to spend my time finding an adblock for. I’m not even opposed to personalized ads. I think it’s a great idea in theory. But scummy corps screw the world over and this is just one weirdly specific aspect of it.

  • The problem is the taste makes me crave the texture.

I’m a bit abnormal in that I crave texture more than taste though. I love eating steak near raw (blue) with my bare hands so I can do that “nature channel wolf thing” where they rip their prey with a side-to-side wry head movement. It’s primal and glorious.

And if I get that flavour without the texture I am left, wanting.

Gollum had it right in the end. Give it to me raw and wriggling. (But preferably free of parasites…)

  • The show has plenty of issues but I’m sticking with it. I’m not blind to it’s faults nor do I hate it outright.

The ending to 5p1 was quite the ride. Good entertainment.

I think the Honest Trailer for it nailed a lot of the critiques, like the lengthy exposition dumps, but it’s not as trash as it’s made out to be. There were still some subtle takes in the show.

While D&D isn’t my preferred TTRPG I have enough experience with the older versions that Will becoming a Sorcerer was a good “in-joke”. Sorcerers, magic users in general, were dogshite for the first while in the early editions. But once they got access to 3rd levels spells they start their ascension towards a somewhat literal godhood. Will was kinda dogshite for the first four seasons, but now? Looks like he got to cast Fireball for the first time into a horde of Xvarts.

Holly, acting was great, and her costuming was… interesting.
