It’s an interesting choice to posture that it’s a simple military maneuver to open the strait, but the supposedly strongest naval power is unable or unwilling to do so. If it were simple, they’d do it; if the strait wasn’t important at all, they wouldn’t talk about it.

Not sure about the rhetorical strategy with acknowledging that it’s important, but complaining it’s still closed. Better optics would be to just not say anything at all, but he can’t even manage that.

It’s hard to imagine anyone in the US doing things or not doing things under fear of “political backlash”. How many dozens of red lines, like Roe v Wade, Doge layoffs, Beautiful Bill cuts, ICE rounding up citizens and examining their social media for thought crimes etc., have there been where people warned that there would be riots in the streets and a general strike that would halt the economy? When those lines were crossed, there were a couple half-hearted protest marches on the weekend that practically swept up the streets behind themselves so that if you were five minutes late, you wouldn’t even know they were there.

But now you’re telling me THIS is one? THIS being something every liberal has to preface their comments with “while Trump shouldn’t have gone to war, the Iranian regime needs to be put down – who kills fifty thousand of their own people??” THAT’S the one he’s supposedly worried about blowback over? The one where they’re agreed on the killing but a little more cost-effectively if you wouldn’t mind?

At least they got to meet their daily quota of the word ‘unprecedented’.

To be honest, I didn’t think there was much remaining consumer demand for HDDs. I know they can scale into the terabytes, but that much data on slower, fragmentable, spinning metal plates seems increasingly unwise in both speed and durability the further you scale.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like any country has the interest in doing so as yet. Or if they do, they’re too worried about getting couped in response.
