  • After using sync since release I’ve been so confused about everyone raging over the ads… I haven’t paid for it (and never will) and I haven’t seen a single one.

Then I remembered I pasted adguard into my phones DNS and I’m only just more confused. I thought most of Lemmy’s users were a bit more on the technical side. It’s such an incredibly simple workaround I’m starting to believe people are just choosing not to use it and cite “sync’s ads” as a soap box to champion their favorite app.

Which is fine, the more options the better IMO, just an odd thing to spend your time doing.

This was me today trying to figure out how to set up a dedicated server for Sons of the Forest. Busted mic man blew threw everything but that 6min tutorial was immensely helpful in helping me install everything before I broke my modem by tweaking the static ipv4 settings 👍

  • I feel like this is fairly common knowledge. I’ve even had discord strangers try to scold me that “the best way to learn a language is to be surround by it and be immersed.” Well, you know what? I can’t just pick up and move to X country for a while on a whim, especially if learning a language is a hobby at best.

Saying Duolingo “isn’t the best” is absolutely true if you’re saying in general. But for people who can’t afford time or money to travel and literally only have an hour (max) a day to commit to such a task… I think duo is one of the best ways there is. Like others have said, it mostly gives you vocab and canned responses, but that’s a heck of a good start compared to doing nothing but save for a super long vacation.
