The best way to annoy people seems to be just not getting mad yourself - if you can’t be infuriated they’ll get mad instead. I don’t really understand

World News@quokk.au•'A long road ahead': Venezuelans react to Maduro's arrest with hope and worry
1·2 days agoIf that’s what you got from what I was trying to say, I really don’t know what to tell you. I’ll just note that I’m not trying to defend USAs actions against international law if that’s also too difficult to understand, personally I’d like to see all dictators, Maduro, Putin, Trump, whoever holds tyrannical power and uses it to oppress and murder, be trialed and hanged for their crimes against humanity. But that’s a fleeting dream in this world

1·2 days agoI’m not assuming improvement, I’m pointing out people can have conflicting feelings and opinions about something. I can’t believe I have to try to explain why people would rejoice about a dictator being gone

31·2 days agoThat doesn’t change the fact that the dictator got taken down. If USA was invaded and Trump was taken, a lot of people would celebrate that but still want to kick the shit out of the invaders

4·2 days agoI didn’t make any claims against that. Obviously attacking a sovereign nation and abducting their leader is against international law, and completely fucked up in general

91·2 days agoThe man was a dictator, obviously the people will be conflicted how to feel about this situation, especially since nobody has any idea what will happen now. Just because you’re invaded by another country doesn’t mean you also can’t celebrate if they manage to dethrone your tyrant leader you wished dead anyway. This doesn’t mean they have to support the invasion or be okay with it by any means. The world isn’t black and white

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You are the dictator of an island nation 900,000 km² in size, 30,000,000 in population, and a random country in the list of top 10 militaries will attack your country in 10 years; what is your plan?
4·2 days agoI’d build the greatest damn utopia the world has ever seen for my citizens. Get the best scientists and researchers and listen their ideas, and implement them. Put up a council of some sort people can vote for, and let their decisions control the general things, unless they try to pull something stupid and turn towards populism or try to collapse the universal healthcare, education system, free housing or the universal income system, or some shit like that, and my benevolent ass has to step in to correct the course. Vaccine the entire population against every possible thing. Figure out best farming methods and enforce strict laws about animal welfare (this fucking utopia will be for animals as well). Get people behind strong workers unions. Tax the shit out of anyone hoarding too much of our community resources.
And use the ten years to develop nukes. Then after the decade I will threaten the invaders with nuclear war and if that halts the attack, abolish my seat and give the powers to the council system that’s been prepared for it, surrender myself to the enemy in exchange for a better deal for the island or let my citizens execute me for a political show to get better terms, and then let the citizens do whatever they want with their country. And if the nuke thread doesn’t work, I’ll just nuke the shit out of the invaders and let the whole world burn, since that’s what they wished for and I’m a crazy dictator.
About three. The older the memory the less I can rely on it though, since most get mixed with dreams and I can’t tell what was real.
It’s just justifications for attacking some nation. “Oh they’ve always been technically part of our country anyway, just these wrong people have taken over so we need to liberate them” or some shit

Technology@lemmy.world•Windows 11’s 2025 problems are getting impossible to ignoreEnglish
3·3 days agoIndeed, the basic user experience has been turned to total shit. I never liked win10, but it worked in day-to-day use without any issues, wanna browse web or write some text? Sure thing, no problem. Diving any deeper… ohhh boy. But that has been an issue with all the latest win versions so that’s not really new.
But win11’s been fully, visibly garbage from the start. The forced upgrades from win10 without asking. Lacking simple features that have been part of windows for ages (like moving the task bar and wordpad). There’s unnecessary bugs constantly, like the task bar images randomly changing sizes even during usage, the text on desktop shortcuts being unreadable because the fucker wants to remove shadows and turn the text to match color of the background (instead of having contrast against it), not to mention the goddamn sidebar that you can’t turn off and will randomly jump out. At least you can turn the trash news feed off from it - if you can get around the bug of the settings menu button for it not appearing…
Just the fact that even as a totally basic user you will notice all this crap is completely unacceptable. I’d switch all my systems to linux in a blink but infuriatingly I’m stuck for now.

World News@lemmy.world•American actor George Clooney and his family are granted French citizenship. Clooney previously said that 'his children have a better life in France than in the United States.'English
1·5 days agoTo be fair it is expensive if you want into Europe or something, but to leave for example to some East-Asian country, the cost of living out there is so much lower compared to US you could probably sell everything you own, buy the flight ticket there, and still have enough to live off for a while. That’s obviously not sustainable in the long run unless you can figure out a source of income, but just leaving itself isn’t that expensive. It’s the where you’re going and how to keep staying away
Nah, Russia has never cared about its soldiers (or russians in general really), they just rely on having enough numbers to throw into the grinder. Many soviet troops send to the wars against us finns in ww2 for example just froze to death because the leaders were incompetent and didn’t care enough about them to order proper equipment.
Part of the incompetence is they can’t tell anything negative to higher ups so the chain of command all lie from the bottom to the top, so the leaders have no fucking idea what is actually happening. You can see this still going on in today’s Russia; the start of the war against Ukraine was a good example, conquering Kyiv in a day my ass. Putin clearly had no idea what was the actual state of his army. I doubt he still has too good of an idea about what is actually happening out there - people who tell hard facts are likely defenestrated

4·6 days agoAt least in an MMO it’s not dangerous feeling.
This is true, as you are kinda protected by the avatar and screen as layers between you and the others. I’d imagine the fear can definitely seep into gaming as well though, if you start getting harassing private messages and all that

Seems like it’s always the same. Dictators push borders and take over lands -> “Oh that’s illegal and very bad, but they’ll be satisfied with that and stop there” -> dictators take over another country -> “Oh that’s illegal and very bad, but they’ll stop there” -> rinse and repeat until it’s close enough to your country. “Who could have seen this coming?!”
