  • I feel the exact same way. I just made my own instance and divide up my content. Each sub community is like a different interest of mine.

I reset it though and pauses federation due to the prior fiasco regarding the malicious images/users.

But, I really love the idea of having a personal Lemmy and in my previous run it felt like it was still gathering connections authentically. Although bigger instances won’t necessarily federate, but that’s not that necessary

  • Yeah I see what you mean about conceptualization + long term memory. I’ve always felt the process of abstracting things higher and higher to be fulfilling. Not sure why. But, it is very easy to get lost and over engineer and in turn not adding any value besides more stress, solving no real problems.

🙌 I’d like to give thanks too. It’s because of open source developers, that I was able to learn computer science fundamentals at a young age, without spending a dime. Some contributors have gone out of their way mentoring a pixelated avatar that beamed countries away.

I feel it’s my duty to give back in the same way. If it weren’t for those projects/strangers back then and today I wouldn’t be able to have the skills necessary to turn my absurd thoughts into realities that I can take comfort in.

I am very thankful for Lemmy’s dev teams and this whole experiment around federation overall. As I feel reminded about what truly matters again. And why I got into engineering in the first place.
