People using YouTube need this info more than people using PeerTube.

I use matrix weekly with about 3 different (all verified) clients and every single one of my encrypted group chats has had this issue.

Perhaps it has gotten better, but every once in a while some messages simply won’t decrypt, and it’s hard to determine why.

I checked just now and I can’t see one user’s messages sent in the last 48hrs (other users can, and I used to see them too). I haven’t signed out of any sessions and AFAIK they are verified.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Matrix. I host my own server. I think it has the most potential to become an industry standard, but it’s still a rough ecosystem for the non-technical.

Two takeaways here:

1. “Higher quality” implies a healthier relationship. Obviously you’re going to rate dinner with your family higher if you have a better relationship with them.
2. Family dinners alone aren’t enough to overcome “adverse childhood experiences”, i.e. trauma. It seems potentially protective, but it’s it going to heal deeper issues.

Honestly, federated FOSS makes so much sense for government communication, as it insulates them from reliance on corporate entities.

I just wish Matrix’s E2EE worked better. Even if you have all your keys managed properly, it’s still really unreliable.

There are self-hosted overlay networks. They may be harder to set up, but you prevent your infrastructure from being reliant on the ticking timebomb that is VC money. I’ve heard about:

This is great! FreshRSS has been part of my YouTube “flow” for a long time. I like going through my subscriptions list, adding them to my “Watch Later” playlist, and then watching them all in a row. This seems like it’d be perfect for that.

It’s no secret to regular readers of this newsletter that I’m still an avid Plex user. Despite the numerous privacy concerns, price increases, and recent (confusing) primary domain redirect from plex.tv to watch.plex.tv, I still find the transition to Jellyfin a hard sell given its fragmentation and smattering of third-party clients that are all good* but not really great (oh, and hello to the Lemmy readers who always roast me for this take)*.

This statement doesn’t make sense. The steam controller is an accessory to the Steam Machine. This would be like launching a PS6 controller before the PS6. Sure you could use it with PCs, but they are part of the same product launch.

That is unless they plan to release all 3 products on the same day, which is absurd and something not even Apple does anymore.

Why is that absurd? Reading their actual blog post, it really seems like that’s the plan.

It seems like you’re just grasping for reasons to be mad at Valve.

You underestimate how long custom hardware takes to produce. Supply chain issues hit the consumer well after they became a problem for manufacturers.

It’s likely Valve has been struggling securing RAM supply since well before the announcement, which is why the announcement didn’t come with a launch date or a price. Valve was noticeably responded, “we’ll see” when asked about those factors, because they were clearly still struggling securing capacity at a reasonable price.
