I learned about lemmy on reddit. Maybe everyone is getting targeted for other reasons. One thing is for sure, the administration violations are not always in good faith, not by a long shot.

I was against any sort of censorship of other groups, until I got a taste of those guys, not just .ml, the worst are hexbear in my experience. The thing is a lot of their users are actually cool, but there is like a hierarchy, it’s not a collective so much as a top down operation, with enforcers or sorts. Their users need permission to accept a new theory on something.
But you can have some good conversations, until the enforcers notice you again.
You almost have to cut these guys off, there’s a danger doing that to too many groups over disagreements and making echo chambers, but as others pointed out, not defederating has led new users to be chased off the site after being abused by those dickheads.
1·13 minutes agoOthers have said even mentioning lemmy gets them targeted by administration. Come to think of it, so did I my last new account that only made it less than a week before a violation for something that wasn’t even close to against the rules. But it could be a lot of things with me, I’m rather aggressive on some issues, Israel the big one, but also trashing politicians, none of which is getting tolerated as much anymore. I’m probably on the list of the administration of people to bump off social media. Sounds paranoid but I bet I’m right, but I digress.

1·25 minutes agoWhile there may be some truth in that, I don’t think it’s accurate to say it’s always been there as such, in fact I believe it didn’t really start in it’s current form until 1971 or so, by design, although it existed before as it does elsewhere, that was the turning point, where big business huddled up and made a long game to seize power, project 2025 is just the recent iteration of that game plan, formed initially by the Business Roundtable.
My first account on my first day or so I said something on one of their threads, thinking they were just super politically correct leftists, and they jumped all over me. Followed me around for months, the entire time I was on that instance really, some made non tankie instance accounts just to troll me. Pathetic really, but I got sick of it, I can give better than they can but I don’t want to get in pissing matches with trolls all the time.
5·1 hour agoWhen I was on the Appalachian trail they had a placard that explained it and said it’s also the oldest mountain range in the world, and used to be like 4x the size of the himalayans (which is the youngest.) Others have disputed that, but just internet randos with no sources, I trust the NPS placard.
I am a refuge from reddit, as I understand it, incompletely, lemmy is it’s own thing, piefed is a new one, with some differences in moderation and moderator tools. Lemmy has a lot of tankie influence is a big factor, communists, they are kind of dicks, to put it lightly.
I think there is a third one too, they can all talk to each other on here.
Reddit admin didn’t find bs to violate you for? They are on my ass. Not permabanned, but within a few days now I get a violation for something that isn’t even against the rules, not even close, if I make a new account.
They just elected a right wing guy playing off the fear of crime, they used to be one of the safest but have had a crime wave. Columbia’s president just said they found a score or so of charred bodies on the Columbian side of the border that were bombed too. The US violated their sovereignty just the other day.
They are separate tectonic plates, the two continents only crashed together relatively recently, the “columbian exchange” that saw wildlife mix between the continents. South America was near Africa at one point, North America more with Europe as I understand it.

2·2 hours agoI think the situation would be more akin to Theodin under the sway of wormtongue asking for help. You know, becaue the president is a piece of shit, while the king of gondor was not. Obviously though theodin was good he was just manipulated, so that doesn’t really work either completely.
The culture was fucked long before no child left behind to be fair. Anti intellectualism was rampant, since before most of us were born, gangster culture and drug prohibition and The Fear made a solid percent of the population criminals and authorized a police state.
City schools are better now than they were in the 80s and 90s, things got real bad in the crime waves.
2·5 hours agoWhat is interesting, there was just an article, these scientists made this super magnet that was really small, like 1,000x stronger by size and using way less electricity to do t. I forget some rare earths it was made of. Just a week back maybe wish I read it closer. I wonder if that could make a bigger emp surge easier.
2·5 hours agoI’m not even saying “with” us. We can cooperate on getting foreign influence and big money out of politics, getting bad politicians out, getting the corporations poisoning our groundwater under control, and the like, without agreeing on everything.
As it stands we are divided and conquered on everything that’s important. We reject everyone on the right turning against the president because he betrayed his america first bullshit, and we are holier than thou, sanctimoniously I told you so-ing, while also rejecting them, their help, and letting Israel of all people account for their motives and character. Oh they called them anti salmon, can’t work with them. Yet they call you that too.
Obviously there is a line, actual nazis is another story, most aren’t that. And we can still all cooperate in some ways.

That is horrible tax policy. We are being strangled by price fixing from every angle already.
I knew he was a piece of shit from the start when he supported fracking and denied the harms of it, in PA no less.
You see, I didn’t know they were communists, so didn’t see why they would be offended by my comment, so defended it, like 50 replies if not more to hundreds of people jumping on my shit, until one of the cool ones explained to me they were communists mostly living outside the US, so I started ignoring them. But one of their enforcer types demanded I apologize and I told him to eat a dick or something, so that didn’t help.
