I just got laid off. Oof. Am I missing anything? I’ve never been laid off or fired before so it’s all new to me. Just sanity checking myself.
- Tomorrow I’m going to write down all my job responsibilities before I forget them. For updating my resume.
- Figure out how to file for unemployment.
- Figure out what I need for COBRA benefits.
- Print and sign my separation agreement.
- Ensure I have access to my paystubs.
The obvious thing being to start applying for new jobs lol.

About making resumes more computer friendly, do you have any more specific tips or know of some popular resume parsing tool that a lot of folks use so I can try it on my resume? I’ve recently become “red pilled” on making my resume computer friendly. I would use ceev.io which is a great tool that I love but I’m not sure how well the output works for machines.
It looks like ceev.io is winding down, so may want to do something else instead. My current one is based on a Google Docs resume template, saved to an ODF file for LibreOffice: I find its editing and PDF export to be more reliable for this purpose. Scanning resumes, https://www.jobscan.co/ has come up in searches & I think I used it in the past; can’t remember off-hand what it was I was using before.
