I’ve been poking around and trying to avoid spoilers to check. This is before the celebration I see everyone mention. I told Lae’zel no because I wanted to do it later. It seems like the option is gone now. Does it ever come back? Is there any console command or mod to fix it?

Yeah I’m about 6 hours in maybe and I’ve already had Shadowheart, Lae’zel and Astarion try and fuck me. And I’ve hardly done any of their quest shit or talked to them hardly at all. I feel like the romance system in this game needs to be reworked for sure. Like I want to have to work for that Astariussy you know what I’m saying?

I do fucking love the rest of the game so far though. Combat feels great, story is good so far though I haven’t got very far in it. The boss fights I’ve had so far have been satisfying. I really like the characters aside from the romance thing, they all feel dynamic and flawed, and they actually feel like they have emotions to some extent (I’m actually kind of reminded of the romance options in Fallout 4 in that everything you do gains their approval or disapproval, though romance in that game is done a little better, though still not perfect.)

And even when you decide to start a romance with someone, it feels shallow, flat and all on your terms. “Hm, I think it’s time to talk to X in camp and see if I can progress the relationship”. No random interruptions while walking around for a lovetalk, and not even any doubts regarding the relationship (at least so far, I’m only in Act 2). They’re all just into you because you’re the main character.

Everyone is transparently designed to be an NPC put in the game for your (the player’s) gratification. Everyone is horny and pansexual, so everybody can get with their favorite. Conversations happen when the player initiates them because we wouldn’t want them to be inconvenienced.

Baldur’s Gate 2 had drawn-out, slowly building relationships where you had to actually think about who you were talking to and pick options that are appropriate, which was not always obvious. You can’t be nice to Viconia and expect her to fall for you, you gotta spar with her first and prove you are her match. Your love interest would randomly interrupt you while walking and start conversations, which made them feel alive. The relationships had ups and downs and didn’t start with obvious flirting. This was 23 years ago.

And if you say I’m being unfair to Larian, it wasn’t my decision to choose this branding. Of course I’m going to compare it to the previous installment.

I’m asking about if you say no to them the first time if they’ll ever ask again.

I was romancing shadowheart but Gale just found out about his fate and was feeling vulnerable and I caved and figured the guy needed a good fuck, then immediately after Shadowheart says “You’re glowing, but I don’t want to share you” and fuck all that work down the drain… had to load a save and let the guy down and he makes you feel like shit for doing so
