Donald Trump erupted at the United Kingdom Tuesday morning over its refusal to join the United States in its war against Iran, issuing the European nation a notice that the United States would no longer be offering it “help.”
“All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

I’m no mapologist, but getting oil from the straight of Hormuz to the UK seems like an incredibly long way around. Surely the UK gets their oil from elsewhere?
In a way it doesn’t matter who gets their oil from where.
Whoever was getting oil from Hormuz, is now getting it from wherever the UK was.
Yeah, that’s a problem for sure. But also means that securing Hormuz doesn’t solve anything, because tomorrow the pedo will invade some other oil critical country. Can’t exactly plan around a lunatic.
Obviously, it will be better for everyone if oil is moving through the Strait.
Actually it’s best if we focus on reducing carbon emmitting energy source usage. High oil prices make that easier.
Or you know… do both?
The Hormuz situation is about to precipitate a financial crisis the likes of which we have never seen.
We can’t avoid it by all buying EVs.
Can you elaborate on this? And how it is worse than the impending financial crisis due to barely mitigated climate change?
We haven’t encountered an impending financial crisis due to climate change yet.
Neither has the closure of the strait of Hormuz caused a financial crisis of a scale never before seen.
US and Norway according to this
My understanding (and I am not an expert) is that it “kinda doesn’t matter” since you’re just sending out trains of huge tankers. The throughput is maintained even if the latency is increased. There is extra cost to taking a longer route to be sure, but it’s been optimized for cost to the point where markets don’t even take a big hit when ships go all the way around Africa instead.
You would not believe how stupid and outdated the infrastructure is in that region.
Everyone just grabs the money.
Suez canal
Still a long way given Norway (and the rest of the north sea oilfields) is right next door.
