That’s one thing I don’t really get about the whole “vpns don’t make your browsing private” thing, like ofc you can still be tracked via fingerprinting/cookies but I thought it was obvious that it was mostly about hiding what sites you’re visiting from the ISP?

I know that there have been scandals with vpns logging user data even when they say they don’t but… you don’t really have a choice if you want to try being anonymous
And you can do one better with DoH, DNS over HTTPS.
No they’ll still see the domains you visit until encrypted client hello becomes a thing.
