if the entire punchline wasn’t in the title and the first paragraph this could have been really clever.

I miss the days when satire was subtle and non-political. but when the time is right we will make satire great again.

Gamer Simply Wants Non-Political Games, White Ethnostate

I miss the days when satire was subtle and non-political.

I honestly can’t tell if you’re continuing the joke by pretending to be the gamer in the article or actually believe that non-political satire is a thing that can possibly exist.

Why couldn’t satire exist independent of politics? Not saying satire should never be political, just that non political things can also be satarized too.

Can you come up with some examples?

Also consider that most things have a political subtext even if the politics aren’t in bold in the text itself. For example, showing a hetero couple is political. So is showing wealth, private property, an endless stream of stuff.

Ah, I see, we were operating with differently broad definitions of “political”. Looking at things with your definition then I agree with you.

The moment anybody says anything people disagree with, it becomes political. Why don’t YOU stop characterizing gender and sexual orientation as political?

Cause nothing exists independently of politics. There’s no such thing as non political satire.

The headlines have long been the best part of Onion articles. It’s like enjoying the premise of an SNL skit without having to watch the cast beat it to death.

I thought that’s just the format. An Onion-style joke is a headline with an optional article that riffs on the concept a little.

I’ve not watched SNL, but what you’re describing reminds me of “misses” from other US skit shows like portlandia or key and peele.

Pretty much every good SNL skit stops being funny halfway through, with few exceptions.

That’s what always put me off SNL. The sketches just seem to go on for too long and always become unfunny

There are thousands of games released every year by indie devs that don’t have any political message. Why don’t you just play one of those instead of getting buried in culture war YouTubers?

The Onion got less funny when the real world became crazier than their satire. Not their fault; it’s hard to be more insane than reality.
