    When ride share first happened I remember there was that brief window where it felt awkward NOT to sit in the front, because it felt like a random person was giving you a ride. Now it feels so weird to have to sit in the front since it’s like a taxi service.

        Interesting. In the US there’s a real desire for separation. The driver doesn’t want you up there for their own comfort and safety (if you turn out to be weird there’s more distance between you and them), and a lot of passengers like it too because it takes away the pressure to make small talk if you don’t want to.

        I kind of enjoy meeting the drivers, but I think I’m in the minority over here. Is it pretty normal to chat with the driver in Australia, too?

          It’s not unusual, but there are also plenty of drivers that are uninterested in conversation
