But they’re just sharing the fact Youtube Premium™ offers a lot of people great benefits, like background play, and music!
And a larger percentage of post operating revenue!
Background play is bloody annoying if you don’t use YT for music. I prefer videos to stop when I switch apps, then resume when I switch back. Now they keep playing.
And I’m starting to get recommendations of music that I can’t remove or tell it I’m not interested in.
I remember when YouTube had background playback for free. An update broke it, then it was put behind a paywall.

There was a different article earlier today and they were speaking about stuff like ReVanced and API access. Since new pipe has not agreed to the APIs terms and services, that means they should be safe

I pay for YouTube premium but still use Revanced since the regular app sucks.
You know what doesn’t suck?

I like revanced, but these are cooler :)
Or just Firefox on Android with Ublock.
Eh. Mine freaks out and fails half the time I try to go full screen. And the frame rate seems like it gets awful randomly.

That works, but If you are okay with that experience, I encourage you even more to give libretube a try
It’s open source, and doesn’t collect user data, and works in my opinion better than firefox+ublock on android
On pc firefox+ublock is great, for now at least
I don’t want to spend more time on youtube. Shit UI acts as a feature.

If only there weren’t trying to make YouTube less usable. Currently if I listen to podcasts on YT and take a break, in a few hours it can completely forget that I was watching it, it’ll be gone from my watch history. This is so frustrating with 2-3 hours long videos.
Any indications that NewPipe or SmartTube will stop working?
Maybe, the ideia is to force everyone to use the site/app, like Twitter an Reddit did.

Youtube alternatives like peertube need to get their act together and think about how to remunerate content creators. Ain’t nobody moving from youtube to peertube that wants to pay their bills with content creation. Nobody.
Why should PeerTube bother with that though? We all know YouTubers won’t switch to it, infact, YouTubers will not use another platform ever.
They could just upload their videos to multiple places, but they don’t. I think it’s clear that the vast majority doesn’t actually care about it. So what is the point of trying to appeal to them? They may as well priroritize their existing userbase, who are fedi hobbyists.
Ask yourself why they won’t and take economical realities into account.
What economic reality? Most of their income comes from sponsorship deals and Patreon subscriptions anyway. YouTube ad revenue is so unreliable that pretty much no content creator I follow considers it a primary way to make money. How could uploading your videos to other platforms in addition to YouTube have a negative impact on that?
Just no, please no, for the love of god no ? that way inevitability leads to enshitification. YT itself is a giant shitshow from decades past
