Aside from major design flaws like these Intel chips, do CPUs ever just die from normal use? I’ve had every single other piece of equipment fail in my decades of building PCs (probably like 50 total) but never the processor

Intel has completely lost it and is speedrunning their collapse
For intel, this seem to be a one off thing just for the 13/14th gen retail CPUs.
I doubt both Intel and AMD will extend baseline warranties for an extra 2 years as a new policy that covers all retail CPUs.

It is rare, but it happens. I think they usually die as a result of less-than-great PSUs.
