As a nerdy kid with longish hair and few male role models, I really, really looked up to this guy. Hercules, Xena, Kull, and then Andromeda.

He fell off my radar for a while but I was pleasantly entertained when I found him in the Mythica series. I’d always thought well of him.

Eventually I heard about God Is Not Dead and looked into the rest of his more right wing work… Its really heartbreaking when people you respected or even idolized as a kid turn out to be so… gross and just… weird.

Now he again pops up on my radar with stupid shit like this. So sad.

Sucks about Sorbo, but thankfully Lucy Lawless (Xena) is still cool af. If you haven’t seen her in Ash vs Evil Dead, check it out! Good stuff.

When I was a kid I had a pillow version of Hulk Hogan. Now he’s taking pictures and shaking hands with literal nazis.

“Never meet your heroes” applies to just getting to know who they are from a distance too unfortunately.

Oh man. While I was never a huge fan, I had the Tonka Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior Plush/Pillow things. Is that what you mean?

Yeah, Hogan is another guy who is just nuts. I think he’s always been a piece of shit. I heard he notified management of Ventura’s talk of a wrestler’s union which killed it before it could gain any traction.

Does that make the white person instantly black? What if people cheer? Does that make the person black?

They are not lefties what are you even talking about. They’re both white conservative christofascists.

I’m not sure if you’re just using tankie as a general pejorative or what but it specifically means authoritarian left.

“Tankie” started as a general pejorative shorthand for “in the tank.”

MAGAs are tankies. Evangelicals are tankies. Every extremist is a tankie.

It’s just we generally only see the communist authoritarian tankies on here.

I was wrong in that it has been used to describe right wing extremists but it does originate with the idea that these people would happily hop in a tank and crush any dissent. I realize I was very vague

In my mind, it made sense that anyone willing to use force (eg, a tank) to impose their violent ideology is a tankie.

Sorbo has been a reactionary shit going back to his early career, but he didn’t really let the freak flag fly until he stopped landing roles in the mid-'00s. He’s got a whole line of really cringey anti-Atheism movies (check out the “God’s Not Dead” series trails) and he’s been dipping his toe into the MAGA sphere since Trump took office.

Dude’s totally high on his own supply.

I wonder what the last president to publicly say the nword was. Like, not Obama alone in the oval office giggling to himself, but a president casually dropping it while doing official president things like a speech or meeting.

Edit: so a quick Google told me Obama used it on a podcast once (while president), so I guess the boring answer is indeed Obama

I’m gonna go ahead and just strike Nixon and Reagan from the list of potential candidates for you. Also Johnson, since whipping your dick out to win arguments seems like an escalation from saying the most shocking thing you can think of to win arguments.

And given that Obama is the only one that grew up during the civil rights movement and all other presidents were already adults by that point, there probably hasn’t been such a president yet.

If you narrow that to “in adulthood” or “during their presidency”, then I think you’ll start getting some hits. Biden, Bush Jr (though more to avoid being recorded saying it and I wouldn’t hold my breath), Clinton, and Carter would be my guesses for the “during presidency” one. Probably just Carter and maybe Clinton for the “in adulthood” one.

          All just speculation though.

Yeah exactly. Nixon’s life was basically a steady stream of slurs, though not sure if it was backed up by actual hate or just indifference (sociopathy/psychopathy?) plus a desire to be edgy… Either way, he definitely said it regularly.

Reagan implemented the war on drugs, which was a hateful act itself, so even without a reputation for language like Nixon had, I’m positive he also said it a lot behind closed doors.
