Not AEW’s best show, I’ll admit, but I still enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised that some of my match predictions were wrong.
The end of the main event, though… FUUUUUCK.
Hated the end of the show, if that was Bryans end, fine, but the whole thing was ugh.
Also could have used (in addition to more NJPW people which I think ive mentioned earlier) more women on the show.
Hopefully it goes somewhere interesting but I think I’m still blegh on Mox as champ again. The roster is so stacked I don’t need him as a 4x champ
I’m ok with it but I kinda wanted at least another month or so build first. This is too soon into his new schtick.
I suspect Danielson’s neck surgery needs to happen sooner rather than later and the timeline got accelerated.
Yeah I’m sure it was Danielsons wish to put Mox over etc. My hope was that Christian somehow walked out as champ last night but ig he wants to extend his reign as the next AEW World Champion
The whole thing with The Father of The Year is what also had me thinking last night’s main event happened sooner than originally planned. Granted, given the nature of it, Christian can be plugged into a feud no matter who has the belt. But double heel sounds like a dumb idea, and it’s already been established that The Patriarchy doesn’t want to fuck with Jon of Moxley and his Merry Men. (Luchasaurus falling ill probably also is a shoot factor). Maybe Darby beats Mox for the title, and Christian swoops in after to fuck him over?
No clue, honestly. After WrestleDream, I’m convinced my predictor is broken.
I now fully expect Darby to get cucked.
My og thought not withstanding LuchaKillswitchasaurus being out was Bryan pulling out the victory, celebrating in his hometown only to have the Patriarchy beat the shit out of him and Christian cashing in so Bryna can try being a decent father like him.
Jay is slick af. Working the knee just kept on paying dividends
Are we going to live post here? Or maybe on Mastodon?
Here, as we always do. Anyone who wishes to live post on Mastodon or anywhere else is more than welcome to as well lol.
No! Only live post here!
*stomps foot and pouts
lol
We always do the live thread here, but definitely feel free to post in Mastodon as well.
I can’t keep up lol, I had no idea this was tonight, and I’ve been watching. Gotta catch up on Rampage and hopefully sneak in Impact
Gotta catch up on Rampage and hopefully sneak in Impact
Just did that a few mins ago myself lmao
We’re watching Rampage now. Obviously Impact isn’t necessary, but it turns out I really like TNA
Edit: you have Acclaimed and MxM in pre-show and main card
I blame Cagematch for that :P fixed, ty.
TNA is def good stuff.
Yeah, and then next Sunday is their next PPV, Maximum Elitism!
Ok, I made that one up, but it just goes to show how many PPVs/Specials they’re putting out. It’s a LOT.
I wasn’t going to watch tonight, but they moved the Guardians game from 8pm to 1pm over rain concerns. So now I’m watching, and realizing this entire card could have benefitted from some extra build time. Maybe this PPV should have been in November.
Ok…new idea. Revamp rampage. From now on, it’s no longer a jobber showcase. It’s a womens showcase. I want Brit. I want Thunderosa. I want Athena. I want Lady Frost. I want Veda Scott. I’m probably forgetting 20 women that also deserve praise. Oh! Marti Belle, and Jessica Kaye.
Does Awesome Kong still wrestle?
Kong is retired
If they had actually done this, people would’ve complained that women can only get time in the show no one watches
I think Rampage ends with 2024. Maybe for shockwave?
That tracks.
But I wish Shockwave would be a 1 hour show showcasing the contenders for the TNT championship. I’d also cancel Collision, and replace it with two different 1 hour shows. One showcasing the TBS championship contenders, the other showcasing the international championship contenders.
Yes, I AM saying they should have a 1 hour show, basically everyday, but each one is a different niche. And each one puts their best angles on Dynamite/PPVs. One A show, and several optional B shows.
I love Jack Perry’s new direction. Also, I think “The Wrestler” is the most generic create-a-wrestler unchanged default nickname. If it were a WWE game it would be “The Superstar”.
My wife thought it was funny that his name was “The Wrestler” in quotes.
To anyone who saw me today say here that Toni Storm is the best, I still stand by that.
…But Willow is also the best. And Mariah May is pretty great too. Amazing what happens when you have long term exposure, and in Mariah’s case, long term story telling. Of coarse it also helps she’s talented on her own, and was working with the best for a year.
Yeah Mariah is great. She’s such a bitch but sells like a maniac and her offense is nasty in return
We’re very fortunate to live in a time where you can ask any wrestling fan “who is the best (active) wrestler in the world?” and you’ll get a ton of different answers. I’ve lost count of how many “favorite” wrestlers I have currently.
Same. I got 3-5 favs at every damned company lmao
Sometimes I wonder if I’m a product of my time. I grew up at a time when WWF had 1 weekly hour of TV that mattered. 45 minutes of that show were established talent squashing jobbers.
Then you’d get a final segment where Hogan comes out and usually has a non-finish to the match, with a strong finish for Hogan beating the bad guy.
Then the 90s happened, and we’d still get 60 minutes a week, except now they were trying to establish a lower midcard with non-steroid guys. Eventually that led to them taking Hogans spot when he left.
So in the 80s, “Who’s your favorite wrestler?” “HOGAN!” I cannot remember a single person besides myself that liked Piper and Savage more than Hogan.
Then in the 90s, if you thought the whole twilight fangirling was pathetic (team jacob vs team edward…thanks google), they got the blueprint from WWF. Are you team Bret, or team Shawn? There was no viable third answer.
Now? Who’s your favorite wrestler?
hears thousands of people all screaming different names
And I don’t even have a favorite now. It seems weird to me to pick a favorite in 2024. I was team Shawn btw.
For us when we were kids, it was definitely Hogan (though I’m still a Piper guy to this day *fist bump), but the adults that I watched wrestling with swore by Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes, so it was fairly diverse back then, too, despite the biggest spotlight being on Hogan.
KOR is a salty bitch
I’m racking my brain, trying to think who KOR is? My brain keeps defaulting to King of Ring but that can’t be right.
Kyle O’Reily?
…yep. I’m an idiot.
I think last year, this show ended with Adam Copeland’s debut. Think they’ll do something cool this year?
Those might be the first machine gun chops I’ve actually liked
Damn you straight to Hell Fletcher
Jack Perry is such a little shithead
In the best way possible.
Even though this match feels very thrown together, it’s probably going to be match of the night…and ALL the matches are thrown together tonight.
