It was and still is an amazing cartoon and it would still teach a lesson to the average incel in 2023.
If that wasn’t abstract enough … there was Ren & Stimpy.
At least they gave us Rocko to let us know what adulting would be like before we got there.
Blew my mind when I learned Rocko was a sex phone line operator.
“Welcome to… Heck!”
“The power of rice compels you!”
Laundry day is indeed a very dangerous day.
Every episode of that show was like a fucking fever dream.
But Ren & Stimpy was never meant for kids afaik.
It was on Nickelodeon before they had like 7 different channels tailored to each demographic.
And the creator is a creepy groomer (allegedly)
Cartoon Network Exec: Woah, momma!
Pretty sure Johnny was canonically 19 - it’s still cringey if it were real life but WAY less weird.
Also he’s ripped af, probably on steroids and uses sunglasses all the time
He also talks like Elvis? But he’s blonde and also it’s never actually addressed.
Actually in the lost media pilot. Lost in as much as the person that has it will not share it with anyone. Johnny wasn’t blond.
Elvis was though, he dyed his hair
Elvis with a vertical haircut
Wait what’s wrong with wearing sunglasses ?
He probably stoned AF

I agree with exec
Catdog was even stranger
As a youngling I have always wondered how do they poop, and even today that question haunts me.
Seems like old cat dog have mastered the three day poop challenge huh?
That 30 years old guy was already 30 years old 20 years ago. He should be about 50 years old now.
Cartoons used to be hillarious. Now they’re just… boring if you ask me. I stopped watching CN after Steven Universe started, that was the last straw, I just couldn’t watch any more of that BS.
Have you ever watched any of The Amazing World of Gumball?
OMG, I forgot about that one, lol 😂. Yeah, from these new shows, that is one is most defintely worth it, love Gumball ☺️.
I thought Rick & Morty was amazing for the first season and then I saw the man behind the curtain. They had no idea what they were doing, huh.
Yep, forgot about that one, Rick and Morty rocks, but no new episodes are being produced as far as I know. Gumball, Rick and Morty, they are most definitely worth it.
It’s kinda like Beavis and Butthead for kids, lol 😂.
Why do you think they had no idea what they’re doing?
They keep making Rick and Morty. And so far they didn’t fuck up, still very funny.
Good to know 👍.
I would argue that the latest season of Rick and Morty tied up a lot of lose ends and felt like it had a good amount of world/multiverse building. Funny and enjoyable.
I agree, that season (6?) was really good.
Steven Universe started out seeming goofy, but turned out to be a fantastic coming of age story though; Genuinely one of my favorite cartoons of all time. Excellent world building and does a great job of handling complicated emotional topics without infantilizing the viewer.
If you only saw the first couple of episodes, you should definitely give it a proper watch. If nothing else, give the song “Here Comes a Thought” a listen, I assure you it’s worth the time investment
I just don’t like it, too serious for my taste, not enough humor, and the little humor it does have, it’s borderline funny. The main reson I don’t like it is exactly that, it’s like a self help show. I wanna be entertained, not drown in depression elaborating emotions. My wife does that, I have enough of that in my life, don’t need a show to do that as well.
Basically, I want humor in cartoons. IMO, they’re made to entertain, period. Some of the old shows may not have had adequate humor for children, granted (though I think it depends on the child, I’ve watched most of those shows while growing up and IMO they were all great), but that doesn’t mean they weren’t funny. They were hillarious. Cartoons nowadays are too serious, always mixing emotions and how to deal with them. My guess is that parrents noways wanna leave this educational aspect of the child to the TV too, so my guess is that kids watch these things cuz they don’t get any input from their parrents regarding these complicated subjects.
I can understand not liking it, given your explanation.
My main thing is that I can’t really stand shows that have no substance - I’d much rather have shows that I can watch together with my 7yo and have things to call back to when we’re having our own disagreements and conversations.
I can definitely see there being parents out there who would rather let the TV parent though, and shows like this one enabling them… but on the other hand, I also think that’s a positive for the shows. Bad parents are going to be bad parents, so at least in those cases a kid can at least find some kind of role model.
Either way, different strokes and all that. Hope you’ve managed to find some good ones to watch these days!

I do that with movies with my son, not cartoons. I want things with substance too, but not in cartoons and not too much of it (in cartoons I mean). Sure, a nice thought here and there, that’s OK, but elaborate digging into emotional subjects, that’s not for cartoons IMO.

That is true I guess… as much as I’d hate to admit it…

Not really, I kinda gave up… plus, I’m way too busy rasing the kid now, so I just watch Discovery Science to relax now. Kinda contradictory, I know, lol 😂.
I totally understand being too busy lol - I’ve barely watched anything besides the stuff that I watch with my kiddo ever since she was born, makes total sense
Yep, first time I watched a movie in… 🤔, oh about 4 years I guess, was this weekend… and I fell asleep half way through the movie 😒. What can I say, I was tired 🤷… I’m getting old I guess.
I’m getting old I guess.
Yeah, I feel that too. I was nodding off last night sitting next to my wife while she played Zelda on our home theater. Crazy how parenting does that to us, eh?
One of my all time favourite cartoons. That and ed edd and eddy
Fucking loved Ed, Edd, and Eddy. All time favorite as a kid.
Ed, Edd and Eddy. Code Name: Kids Next Door. Frankie Foster’s Imaginary Friends. Kick Buttowski. Kid Vs Kat.
Literally every show was based in USA, and everyone’s privilege was on steroids. It gave a lot of shock therapy, and even taught bad stuff to kids, honestly, and that goes even for Kodomomuke shows from Japan.
MegasXLR, Two Stupid Dogs, Courage, Billy and Mandy, Evil Concarne, Chowder… so many good shows…
Cow & Chicken, need I say more?
Forgot that one, also epic 👍.
The one that I’m the most bummed out about is Megas, I just loved that show, only 2 seasons man 🤦. There was a petition to keep doing it, but have no idea why CN pulled the plug, that show was epic anime satire, just loved it. Not to mention the score, people still share tracks from that show on YT.
You’re preaching to the choir, brother. I’m a huge mecha nerd, owed in large part to Megas XLR. I’ve read that the show was really meant for a more mature audience, and had it waited a year to debut on Adult Swim, who knows where we’d be now? I have both seasons on my Plex server, and it’s such a guilty pleasure to live my childhood again. Chicks dig giant robots.
To be honest, I was never a mecha nerd. I mean, a few episodes of this or that, mostly at friend’s places, but I never watched anime or mecha on a daily basis. But yeah, I did understand the culture and the people (some of my friends were anime and/or mecha nerds).
That’s why I LOVED Megas 😂. It was an anime parody 😂. You don’t see too many of those, not to mention with good animations and made to look like it’s a dead serious show, lol.
Yeah, it was meant for a more mature audience, I mean there was a lot of sex related jokes and dialogue, lol. I wish they bring it back on Adult Swim 😭. I would pay good money to see new episodes of it… I really would, that is probably the one show from my childhood that I was like “huh 🤨… you show this to kids?.. that’s so cool 😂” (I wasn’t that young, I was like 17, 18, I understood the dialogue and the jokes).
What can I say, chicks dig giant robots man 🤷 🤟 😂.

pretty sure it was just foreshadowing for redditor’s
Was it really for kids? It was a cartoon yes, but so was Ren and Stimpy
