White flight is a term that describes how white people move out of neighborhoods when more people of color move in. White flight is especially common when minority populations become the majority. That neighborhood then declines in value.
Male flight describes a similar phenomenon when large numbers of females enter a profession, group, hobby or industry—the men leave. That industry is then devalued.
In 1969 almost all veterinary students were male at 89%.
By 1987, male enrollment was equal to female at 50%.1
By 2009, male enrollment in veterinary schools had plummeted to 22.4%
A sociologist studying gender in veterinary schools, Dr. Anne Lincoln says that in an attempt to describe this drastic drop in male enrollment, many keep pointing to financial reasons like the debt-to-income ratio or the high cost of schooling.
But Lincoln’s research found that “men and women are equally affected by tuition and salaries.”
Her research shows that the reason fewer men are enrolling in veterinary school boils down to one factor: the number of women in the classroom.
“There was really only one variable where I found an effect, and that was the proportion of women already enrolled in vet med schools… So a young male student says he’s going to visit a school and when he sees a classroom with a lot of women he changes his choice of graduate school. That’s what the findings indicate…. what’s really driving feminization of the field is ‘preemptive flight’—men not applying because of women’s increasing enrollment.” - Dr. Anne Lincoln
For every 1% increase in the proportion of women in the student body, 1.7 fewer men applied. One more woman applying was a greater deterrent than $1000 in extra tuition!
This is what I have been saying for a long time: The essence of being male is to not be female.
If we can’t manage to change that core value of practically all manhood (that I have experience with or talked about with people) there is little hope for sex & gender equality, equity and justice.
How? No clue!
I’m not sure what you mean by this, would you mind elaborating ?
Someone 2100 years ago explained it already:

I think that they’re talking about the wholesale rejection of all that is feminine. Especially growing up, any boy that demonstrated any kind of feminine traits or who was not “all boy” was ridiculed. That’s what needs to change. Any weakness ridiculed, any sensitivity crushed… It’s a wonder that there are any kind men at all.
That would imply an “essence” of masculinity that was not defined by it’s lack of femininity.
That somebody would be pushed towards an ideal of masculinity and dissuaded from an ideal of femininity implies that both exist.
Not necessarily completely separate, but still existing at least partially individually.
I’m still confused over what is meant by
Perhaps I’m missing something obvious or i have some bias getting in the way of my understanding.
Boys are trained to avoid doing anything “girly”. It is everything from being encouraged toward military service to being socialized to be unhygenic on purpose or being trained never to cry. But people NEED safety, cleanliness, and vulnerability, those are human qualities. Boy and manhood is becoming increasingly detached from humanity to some. Most well adjusted people will realize everyone has feminine and masculine aspects and EVERYONE has basic human needs like… to cry when bad things happen.
For boys like Andrew Tate, Ben Shapiro, etc femininity is abhorrent, so masculinity has become an increasingly bitter imposition. What matters to them is defining themselves outside of femininity and any attempt to deduce what masculinity is or can be are irrelevant outside of that. Its the result of seeing sex as a caste system they’re at the top of. Queers and college professors come shaking the trees and they don’t want to fall out. So now manhood more than ever is about fucking loathing women and gays.
I somewhat agree with most of that, that particular brand of toxic masculinity is gaining traction and that is a problem.
Let’s not pretend that this is new though, almost the entirety of modern western civilization has been patriarchal to a fairly extreme degree, this is just the latest flavour.
I’m not dismissing the current problems with all of that, just pointing out that the problem of enforced gender/sex specific division isn’t new these are just the latest grifters, it’s also not specific to men ,with differing problems for all sides.
This is a systemic societal problem and will almost certainly need solutions that acknowledge that, otherwise you are treating only the symptoms.
None of which is an actual answer to my original question.
