I had already posted this with a lemm.ee account, and moved here because lemmy.world is hosted in EU, but seems like the post got deleted along with the account. I’m sorry for the possible spam.
It’s missing lemmy and matrix, but at least they have mastodon listed.
Yeah, at least they (supposedly) have a chat to propose stuff. I already proposed EU-hosted Lemmy instances. What is matrix, by the way? First time I heard of it.
the fediverse chat protocol
started as a seperate project but is spiritually very aligned with the rest of the fediverse
- federated/decentralized server network
- seperation between protocol, server, and client application
- free and open source
so it got “included” to the fediverse (not compatible with ActivityPub)
if you want to try it: https://element.io/ (or other clients: https://matrix.org/ecosystem/clients/ )
so the way usernames are managed is @username:instance, so, if I’m in the matrix one, it would be @elrecoal19:matrix.org, and yet I can contact people on other instances like @friend:differentInstance, right?
I already proposed some things to them in the past. They responded really quickly and added my suggestions right away. I just wrote them a private message on Mastodon: @[email protected]
Good to hear
Its a chat protocol with encryption build in. Its like Discord and/or Whatsapp like.
That sounds nice, only bad thing is most people probably still don’t use it.
Afaik they are the only ones currently who at least anonced that they want to implement the DMA (EU law) enforced WhatsApp chat interoperability: https://element.io/blog/the-eu-digital-markets-act-is-here/
So there is hope that at least in europe this could become an alternative.
Well, there are some great opensource software projects that are on the Matrix network. Look at matrix.org :) I host my own server for some friends, just like i host my own Lemmy etc.
Should be like an alternative to Discord. Don’t really use it so can’t judge how it holds up
FYI: feddit.de ist dead, the big german-speaking instance is feddit.org now.
I checked it out when you posted it before and I’m so glad the site exists. I would very much encourage everyone to use it and the services and products listed.
Perhaps peertube should be in the list too? At least the European instances?
Agree, here there is a list of peertube instances:
https://instances.joinpeertube.org/instances
And a few of the ones with most users and videos are European, too
I suppose its worth a shot. Support the local is always a good thing when the other guys are sympathising
