Richard Branson’s Virgin to appeal against ruling by Network Rail that jeopardises its ambitions of running ‘open access’ train services on west coast main line
I’m not a frequent train user, though I do try and use the train where possible in place of flying. The First Class service with Virgin used to be brilliant - decent lounges, endless Virgin Cola (which is either a blessing or a curse depending on your tastes) and decent staff.
Shame they pulled out really. When I think of good train travel experiences, I think of the Virgin services, rather than sitting on a Southern service freezing my titties off at Clapham Jcn twenty years ago!

I never had much to do with ECML services, but Virgin were vastly better at operating CrossCountry than Arriva.
